COVID-19 Statement from Local 4340

March 17, 2020

CWA Local 4340 Members,

As the effects of COVID-19 continue to evolve, we are working to ensure that our employers are complying with public health guidance and requirements.  Our members and their families have all been impacted by what is going on in our country and the world.  Some members are included in the categories which could be most impacted by COVID-19.  By now, you all may have heard the recommendations in the news or online from CDC and various departments of health, practicing proper sanitary procedures and social distancing, etc.…  Please follow these recommendations as best you can.

During this time, your Union has been in constant contact with employers to make sure that all necessary sanitary measures are being done for our members that work at inside offices and in the field.  The demands that we are making are similar to what is being asked by other CWA Locals and Unions.

Some of our employers have begun to provide various access to excused time off work.  We are working to get the details to be able to answer questions about this time and will work with the Stewards to pass along information that is impactful to your employer.

Please understand that things are changing almost daily and the Officers, Business Agents and Stewards are working hard to make sure everyone has the most up-to-date information as possible.  As new information becomes available and new developments occur, we will continue to pass on the information.  These are the times that we must work together to help one another.  These are the moments that should not divide us, but unite us for the good of our country and each other.

We will continue to work with our various employers daily to demand our members be kept safe and hope that this virus passes quickly without further harm to anyone.  If you have any questions, please contact the Local @ 216-635-4340.

In Solidarity,

Gary, Dave and Linda

Ohio House Telecom Dereg Bill 402

Next week a Telecom Deregulation Bill HB 402 (Revise telephone regulations) will likely be voted out of the Public Utilities Committee, and possibly voted on, at the Feb 28th full session.

This Bill will:

1) Remove service commitments on Basic Local Exchange Service (BLES).

2) Allow increases on these BLES lines, different than past rules of a $1.25 year max.

3) Includes language to make it harder to qualify for Lifeline service.

4) Removes PUCO approval for Mergers and Acquisitions of Telecoms.

All 4 hurt our members’ employment security and Ohio consumers.

Please ask:  Why telecom companies are getting deregulation relief freebies without promising to increase infrastructure build-out or to keep Ohio jobs?

Please call your Ohio House Rep and asked they vote NO on HB402.

Go here to learn who your Rep is: http://www.ohiohouse.gov/

The main # at Statehouse is:  1-800-282-0253

Click here to see who members of the Public Utilities Committee are, this should be your first call: http://www.ohiohouse.gov/commi ttee/public-utilities

Please Call all PUCO Members, and ask them to vote NO on HB402

VOTE NO ON HB 402!

Bonus is nice. Job Security, even better!

To CWA Members:

AT&T has announced a $1000 bonus to all employees because of the GOP tax plan. Our reply:

 You can’t buy our approval.

The bonus you are touting is the blood money from those you announced termination to 10 days before Christmas. The mass emails you send to the hard working employees of this Company thanking them for their dedication and sacrifice are a mockery.    No amount of praise will numb the damage done to our Brothers and Sisters as they spend the Holidays desperately trying to plan how they will continue to provide for their families.

 Do the right thing.

Cancel the planned 1st quarter surplus at AT&T.  Take these tax breaks that you are lavishing praise on and use them to train our Members for the work that is to come. Let your words and your actions speak in unison. The 7000 hard hat jobs you promised can start with not sending over 1800 to the unemployment line come January 2018.

Show the nation that these tax cuts truly will benefit the working families of America.  We are waiting for you to do the right thing.

In Solidarity,

CWA State Council of Ohio

P.S. This "bonus" is a perfect addition for members to add to their strike funds.
